Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following Schuylkill County crashes investigated by troopers:

• A tractor-trailer rig crashed along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township, at 4:45 p.m. March 15. The driver was trapped and later flown to a trauma center.

Troopers said Randall Edwards, 57, of Mount Carmel, was driving a Freightliner with 53-foot trailer southbound when the rig went onto the right berm and struck guide rails. The truck continued along the guide rails, went down a steep embankment into a wooded area and overturned. Emergency personnel had to extricate Edwards from the wreckage and he was then flown by the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Both lanes of the interstate were closed for about 30 minutes.

Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the Altamont and Englewood fire companies of Frackville, Washington and West End fire companies of Mahanoy City, Ryan Township Fire Company and EMS unit from Shenandoah.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:04 a.m. on March 16 along Main Boulevard in East Union Township. Troopers said Takiem T. Foat, 28, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey northbound when he lost control of the vehicle on a left hand curve. The SUV overturned on the east berm, coming to rest on the driver’s side facing west.

Foat was taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville. He was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 4:37 p.m. on March 15 along Schaeffer Hill Road in Cass Township. Troopers said Bradley R. Klare, 33, of Pottsville, was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 truck southbound while Shane M. Hoffman, 22, of Shenandoah, driving a 2008 Ford F250 northbound. Klare lost control of his truck which struck a rock wall along the right berm, it then struck the Ford truck pushing it into a wooded fence. After impact the Dodge continued southbound before coming to rest.

Klare was treated at the scene for a minor injury. Both vehicles had to be towed. Klare was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 5:44 p.m. on March 17 along West Mount Laffee Road in New Castle Township. Troopers said Skyler J. Barnetsky, 25, of Cumbola, was driving a 1969 Dodge Coronet westbound and attempted to pass another vehicle on the left. Another vehicle was coming toward him and Barnetsky locked up the brakes on his vehicle and lost control. The Dodge traveled off the road on the left side and struck an embankment before coming to rest.

Barnetsky sustained a suspected minor injury but refused medical treatment. The vehicle was towed.

Barnetsky was cited for the crash.
