NL approves 5-year contract with superintendent

Northern Lehigh School District has renewed the superintendent’s contract for five more years.

On a unanimous measure, the school board on Monday approved a resolution for the reappointment of Superintendent Matthew J. Link, for a term beginning July 1, and ending on June 30, 2026.

The board only voted on the length of the term of Link’s new contract. All other items will be negotiated over the next few months, and then a full new contract will be approved.

Director Bob Keegan congratulated Link on his reappointment.

“I would like to congratulate our Superintendent Matthew Link for getting board approval for a new contract,” Keegan said.

Board President Gary Fedorcha said it’s comforting for him to know Link will continue to lead the district into the future.

“You’ve made my life easier for the next couple of years knowing that you’re at the helm,” Fedorcha said.

For his part, Link thanked the board for their support.

“Thank you board members,” Link said. “It means a lot to me that you have that confidence in me, and I look forward to serving the district for another five years.”

Several others directors congratulated Link as well.

Link was appointed as superintendent in October 2017.

The term of that contract was from Jan. 1, 2018, and ending on June 30, 2021.

Link started at a salary of $147,000. He received a 3.5 percent increase in each of the following three years.

Link’s salary for the current school year is $162,982.

Former Superintendent Michael Michaels was making $147,383 at the time of his retirement.
