John L. “Jack” Crampsie, Summit Hill’s police chief for more than 21 years before retiring on Feb. 15 of this year, has been named the Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization’s “Citizen of the Year” and will be honored at a testimonial dinner planned for April 8 at the American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill.

Philip Shelton, president of SHCIO, said, “We’re happy to honor Jack for everything he did for this town. The award is surely deserving.”

Crampsie first handled the chief’s job in the summer of 1946. Two years later, he changed professions, becoming a structural steelworker, before retiring to Summit Hill to take over the department a second time in 1963.
