February 24, 1979 - A total of 23 area wrestlers from the District Sectionals qualify for the District 11 Class 2A tournament. Panther Valley advances six from the West Sectional, while Northwestern also has six move on from the East Sectional. The Tigers’ Vince Stravino (105 pounds) and Pete Kelchner (138) advance by posting pins, while PV’s Greg Gogal (heavyweight) also registers a fall. Other area wrestlers to advance by registering a pin include Lehighton’s Mark Kunkle (126) and Kevin Snyder (167), Palmerton’s Phil Latzgo (155) and Jim Thorpe’s Pete Hontz (heavyweight).
