An inmate listed at SCI Mahanoy, Frackville, has died.

Jennifer Mahally, superintendent Bernadette Mason’s assistant, confirmed the death of Joseph Bowers, 78. She was unable to confirm the cause of death. His next of kin/emergency contact has been informed.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office pronounced Bowers dead at 4:02 p.m. Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown, The coroner’s office said his manner of death was an accident but the cause of death was blunt force head injury due to a fall he sustained at the facility Feb. 18.
