Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 17

The Pleasant Valley boys’ and girls’ basketball teams picked up victories over East Stroudsburg North on Wednesday.

Weatherly and Northwestern picked up wins in boys’ basketball action, as did the Palmerton, Marian, Jim Thorpe and Panther Valley girls’ squads.

Elsewhere, Jim Thorpe’s wrestling team posted a sweep against Williams Valley in a doubleheader.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley defeated East Stroudsburg North, 62-53, in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

After holding onto a slim one-point lead after one, the Bears outscored the Timberwolves 15-6 in the second quarter to take control.

The Bears’ Donald Francois Jr. netted a game-high 24 points, while Joel Contreas finished with 17.

Kyle John paced the Timberwolves with 19 points.

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Weatherly posted an 85-64 non-league victory over Panther Valley.

Scotty Zoscin led the Wreckers with 28 points and seven assists, while Antonio Colecio followed with 24 points, five assists and five rebounds. Trevor Lowman chipped in with 10 points.

Stephen Hood had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, while Andrew Kokinda drained five three pointers on his way to 17 points.

Raquel Costache and Chanel Davis paced the Timberwolves with 12 points apiece.

Brianna Moore sparked the Bombers (10-4, 8-3) with a 25-point performance, while Beth Morgan followed with 14 points.

The Green Knights (3-9, 2-8) were led by the duo of Ellie Wallbillich and Jill Marro, who both finished with 12 points.

Frankie Martinelli led the Fillies with nine points, while Jacalyn Possessky, Carly Minchoff and Kerrigan Digris all finished with eight.

Marian improves to 4-7 overall and 4-6 in the league, while Shenandoah Valley falls to 4-8 overall.

The Olympians’ (15-4, 12-1) Skler Searfoss posted 10 of her game-high 19 points in a 23-point opening quarter, while Leila Hurley chipped in with six of her 16 points in the first quarter.

Erika Dubosky and Maddison Maynard scored 22 points apiece to spark the Panthers (5-14 overall; 3-12 SL). Dubosky also added 14 rebounds, Sera Robin also played well for PV with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Julia Plashko led the Tide with 17 points, while Julia Kowalski and Alexandria Blum added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
