Schuylkill man charged with Gilberton break-in

State police at Frackville charged a Shenandoah man in West Mahanoy Township with burglary and other offenses Friday.

Steven Robert Melsom, 25, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Rossi. He is in Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $50,000 straight cash bail, court records show. A preliminary hearing is set for 9:45 a.m. Feb. 24 on Magisterial District Judge Thomas Xavios’ courtroom.

He is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and two charges each of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for the incident Jan. 21 at the Guntown Salon, 145 N. Second St., Girardville, Jan. 21.

Police said he forcibly entered the property by breaking open the front door and removed a cash register with $120.
