Traveling artist shows off her work in Tamaqua

An artist who loves to travel made her way to Tamaqua last week.

The Tamaqua Community Arts Center held its first gallery of 2021 and welcomed Schuylkill County native Danielle Beury to town.

Beury, originally from the Ashland area, also goes by Wander Woman Art.

“I like to move around a bit,” Beury said. “I feel like every time you go somewhere new, you learn so much about the culture and people.

“I lived down South near Jekyll Island in a little port town called Brunswick, which is an amazing place. I loved it there. Before that, I lived in Oahu, Hawaii, which was quite fun.”

Beury also spent time in France and Costa Rica.

Her passion to create started at a young age.

When I was little, I used to watch that Disney show where you could send in drawings, she said. “I used to love to draw, send it in and watch the show. … Creativity has always been in my spirit for sure.

“Through school I did some painting and kind of laid dormant a little bit. … When I left Georgia, I had zero plan. I knew I was meant to travel - from there I didn’t know. When I got back from traveling, I went to see my friend Jen from Sage Coffee House in Pottsville.”

Beury showed her friend some photography and was offered a show.

“That was my first show, and from there I started running with it. From there, I got to be involved in the mural program. I did the mural at Pottsville High School, which is super bright and colorful.”

Beury’s colorful creations can be found at the arts center through most of February.

When asked where Beury would be off to next, she shrugged and smiled.

“My philosophy is the more you roam, the more you grow,” her website says. “With mileage you gain knowledge. There is so much wonder in our beautiful world. So much to be grateful for and marvel at. Beauty is all around us every day. It is my hope that through my work I can capture even a wee sliver of the joy that is life, so that it may be shared with others.”
