SS. Peter and Paul announcements
Masses
Lord’s Day Masses at SS. Peter and Paul Parish, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, begin on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis offers the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with the assistance of Deacon Joseph C. Wilhelm Jr.
While reservations are not being taken, we can safely hold no more than 75 people with social distancing, wearing of masks, and sanitizing practices in place.
Our parish hall (school building) livestreams Mass from church and can fit an additional 25 people.
For those who are not ready or able to join us in person, each Mass is livestreamed on our parish Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sspplehightonpa, and on our website, peterandpaulchurch.com, and is available later on our parish YouTube channel. The cry room remains unavailable, but we love the sight and sound of children!
PREP
Our Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) meets Sundays during the school year at 8:45 a.m. in the parish hall, observing all sanitary precautions. Contact Deacon Wilhelm at 610-377-3690 for more information.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
Our budding Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be meeting in church and by Zoom on Wednesday starting with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 6:30 p.m.
We are looking for people and ideas to put flesh on our desire to serve the local needy. Already parishioners offer and accept gift card donations for Giant and Mallard’s and offer free and confidential assistance with medical paperwork.
Video faith opportunity
“No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion,” is a video faith-formation opportunity created by Dr. Edward Sri. We will gather in-person on Thursdays starting at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall and are looking into online options for this and future offerings. $20 covers all materials.
Call Mary Marzen at 610-984-2023 or mcmarzen@gmail.com.
Cooks with Collars
Vote for Father Zelonis and parishioner Reyna Gonzalez, who are representing SSPP in “Cooks With Collars,” an online video competition that benefits our diocesan Catholic charities and our parishes.
Go to alletntowndiocese.org to view and vote with a $10 donation.
Food sale
Call the rectory at 610-377-3690 by Friday to order chili, Amish potato corn chowder, or chicken potpie for only $6/quart, or mac & cheese at $8 for 1-pound serving.
Pickup is from 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 19.
Groundskeeper needed
Our parish cemetery needs a groundskeeper by springtime for grass cutting and trimming. Work approximately 10-12 hours a week, with hundreds of people under you by your first day. Contact Carl Marzen at 610-984-7868 or ssppcem@gmail.com.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday Masses are at 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., and a Liturgy of the Word and Distribution of Ashes at noon.
This year, in accordance with Vatican and diocesan guidelines, ashes will be sprinkled on the head and not cruciform. By either method they are an external sign of our deepening awareness of mortality and our ongoing interior conversion from sin to the Lord.
Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross (guided meditations on Our Lord’s Passion and Death) will take place every Wednesday in Lent at 6:30 p.m.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is available at the front door of the Rectory (enter, kneel or sit) every Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m., and every Friday from 7 to 7:50 a.m. Additional Lenten times will be announced in the coming weeks.
Evening of Recollection
There will be a Lenten Evening of Recollection on March 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with communal prayer followed by a reflection from the Rev. Kevin P. McCabe, assistant pastor of St. Matthew Parish in Philadelphia.
The topic is “Life as Doing in Memory.”
