The West Penn Township board of supervisors gave thanks to its hardworking employees.

They did so at Wednesday night’s meeting by approving a bonus for each person employed by the township.

“They never stopped working and ensured that our business was fluid,” said Glenn Hummel, vice chairman.

Each individual employed by West Penn will receive $250.

“We wanted to say thanks,” said Supervisors’ Chairman Tony Prudenti, who also gave kudos to the township workers for being on the front line every day during the pandemic. “It’s getting scary out there.”

Recycling update

Members of the fire company, as well as members from the board of supervisors, have met and are ironing out more logistics for the township’s new upcoming recycling program.

Schuylkill County ended its program a few weeks ago, as many townships are left with no solution.

But West Penn has one, as earlier in January, the board approved to have the township recycling site at its fire company.

“The snowstorm is going to delay everything for a while as far as recycling and everything,” said Supervisor Tim Houser. “Be patient with us, it’s just going to take a little bit of time.”

Storm, road crew

Prudenti and Houser received nothing but positive reviews from the public in regard to the job done by the township’s road crew during the snowstorm earlier this week.

“I’d like to thank the road department for what they did,” Prudenti said. “The storm was a monster, and they were out through the whole thing. They did a great job, kudos to them.”

Houser added, “I have to agree with you. Usually when I get a phone call about the roads, it’s someone complaining that they weren’t done properly.

“I actually got complimented for the road crew. That person was very happy with the job they did.”

Police department

• The board accepted a resignation letter from patrolman Stephen Zuronski.

• The board approved the hiring of officer Zachary Wargula, part-time.

The next public meeting is set for Feb. 15 at 10 a.m.
