Palmerton board workshop meeting delayed

Palmerton Area School District’s board workshop scheduled for Tuesday has been pushed back a week.

The virtual meeting will now be held at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9.

The agenda, which is posted on the district website, includes a discussion on the 2021-22 preliminary budget, the high school program of studies and the high school window project.

In December, Palmerton voted to stay within its Act 1 index for the 2021-22 budget, meaning the most it could raise taxes is 4.1%, as determined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Last month, the district approved a guaranteed energy savings agreement with McClure Company at a cost of $1,694,476 for the high school window project.

Palmerton figures to see energy savings of around $94,000 over 20 years after work is completed. The district was also awarded $250,000 through a Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority COVID-19 Restart Grant because the window replacement was halted by the pandemic.

Taking into account the grant and energy savings, the financial impact to the district is estimated at $1.35 million.
