Pa. reports 3,128 cases Wednesday

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Wednesday that there were 3,128 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 853,616.

There are 3,281 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 669 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

As of 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, there were 143 new deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, reported for a total of 21,955 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Through Feb. 2, 1,096,525 doses of vaccine have been administered.

Local numbers

• Carbon County added 16 new cases since Tuesday for a total of 4,456. Three more deaths were reported for a total of 127.

• Lehigh County has 28,427 cases, an increase of 70 since Tuesday, with seven more deaths for a total of 692.

• Luzerne County has 23,068 cases, an increase of 42. There were seven more deaths, bringing the total to 645.

• In Monroe County, there are 30 new cases since Tuesday for a total of 8,713. Two more deaths were reported for a total of 246.

• In Northampton County, there are 83 additional cases, for a total of 23,799. Deaths remain at 574.

• Schuylkill County reported 11,305 total cases, 25 new cases. Three more deaths were reported for a total of 339.
