February 3, 1961 - Tamaqua jumps out to a fast start and cruises to a 79-38 Black Diamond League victory over Lansford. George Tomchick, who scores a game-high 22 points, triggers a 15-2 run at the end of the first quarter as the Blue Raiders take control. The league’s first-half champs, coached by Eli “Pinkey” Purnell, put the game away with an 11-0 spurt in the third quarter. George Barron contributes 19 points to the win, while Bill Willing finishes with 15. For the Panthers, Joe Dardas and Frank Bydlon share team honors with seven points apiece.
