Ross Twp. supervisors discuss part-time secretary positions

Ross Township supervisors and personnel meet briefly Monday by phone conference due to the snowstorm.

They postponed most of their agenda items until 7 p.m. Feb. 10, when they hope to meet in person.

The township building was closed on Monday and mostly likely Tuesday, Chairwoman Tina Drake said. It will likely reopen Wednesday.

“The safety of our employees is more important,” she said.

The only personnel on site were the road crew so they could plow the roads.

On Monday, supervisors briefly discussed advertising for a part-time secretary to assist full-time secretary Danielle Romano with answering the phone and filing tasks.

Drake and Supervisor James Zahoroiko voted in favor of advertising the position for two days a week to start, and at an hourly rate of $15.

Vice Chairman David Shay said it was not a necessity and voted against it, saying they had not budgeted for this new hire.

Drake said there is also a need to hire a part-time planning commission secretary.

Sharon Steen is the current planning commission secretary; however, she recently spoke with Drake about stepping down because she is ill and not able to perform her duties.

Duties include preparing for and taking minutes at the monthly planning commission meeting, correspondence and filing. The hourly rate is to be determined.

The motion passed to advertise for a part-time planning secretary.

Drake announced they have received three more quotes for a barrier in front of Dave Trout’s home, which is in a dangerous curve along Meixsell Valley Road. There are four quotes now. One was reviewed at the January meeting and the three new ones will be reviewed next Wednesday.

Trout was on the phone call and assured supervisors he would be there to hear the discussion and any decision that occurs.
