Carbon County is making sure law enforcement has needed supplies to keep officers safe during the pandemic.
On Thursday, Commissioner Rocky Ahner provided an update on two state grants that Rick Parsons, chief adult probation officer, was able to secure last year for pandemic-related purchases.
The first grant, which was for $66,487, was used to purchase PPE for municipal law enforcement agencies in the county, as well as Victims Resource Center and Domestic Violence Resource Center; large misting machines and testing for inmates coming into the prison, Ahner said.
Additional funds became available through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and Carbon County was awarded another $30,767.
The additional money, Ahner said, was used by Parsons to purchase more PPE, cleaning wipes, gloves, handheld foggers and scanners to support the ability to work remotely.
The supplies will be distributed to local law enforcement agencies once everything is received.
“This is going to the whole county,” he said as he showed off one of the handheld foggers that will be distributed.
Ahner commended Parsons for his dedication to the county and working to get these funds to help law enforcement in the county.
