Forecast: 12 to 22 inches of additional snow

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Heavy snow is expected to bring additional snow accumulations of 16 to 22 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, about 9 inches of snowfall has been reported in the Lehighton area.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

According to Accuweather, snowfall rates will be much heavier near the coast, closer to the center of the powerful nor’easter. Snowfall rates could reach 1-2 inches per hour along the I-95 corridor from New Jersey through New England. There could also even be the chance for some thundersnow.

AccuWeather meteorologists expect New York City to see a major snowfall from this event, somewhere in the 10- to 15-inch range. Boston will also see significant snowfall from the storm, about 6-12 inches, even if there is some mixing for a brief time.

Snow will continue through Tuesday. Snow may be heavy at times this afternoon as an intense band of snow likely develops near the area. Gusty winds may lead to blowing and drifting of snow.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
