Crash victim remembered for her smile, personality

Wise beyond her years and contagious energy.

Amber Schwoyer, of Coaldale, passed away on Jan. 27 at the age of 18 after being involved in a crash in Rush Township. Community members spoke highly of her outgoing personality and the positive impact she had on countless people.

“She had a way of even making a tough day a good day,” said Alicia Silliman, Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation administrator.

“She was fun, her laughter, everything was contagious.”

Schwoyer was a senior at Commonwealth Charter School and worked full time as a dietary aide for the Hometown nursing home, while raising her 3-month-old daughter.

“You had to just love her, you truly did. Everybody did,” said Silliman. “The staff was devastated. Amber brought joy to every resident and staff member she touched.”

Amber was a member of Grace Community Church of Lansford.

“She was a very giving person,” said the Rev. Jeremy Benack, of Grace Community Church. “Always looking to bring a smile to people’s faces.

“That’s one thing, even through the tragedy, we prayed for a miracle for her. She ended up being a miracle for others, because she gave her organs and they’re going to a lot of different people. A lot of other people that were praying for miracles, Amber actually became their miracle through the gift of life. Even in her death, she was a giving person.”

Amber is the daughter of Daniel and Jennifer (Kellner) Schwoyer.

She is also survived by her beloved 3-month-old daughter, Kinsley Knapp; fiance, Tanner Knapp, who is currently serving in the United States Marines; brother, David Schwoyer; paternal grandfathers, Richard Jay Kellner, Richard Kleckner; maternal grandparents, Mary Ann, and Ed Schwoyer; and aunt, Pam Kephart.

“She was a very forgiving person. … She just had the attitude of giving people second chances, and it really was a characteristic that we’re all called to live for,” added Benack. “She would always try to be the light in peoples’ lives.”

A celebration of Amber’s life will be held on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Grace Community Church in Lansford.
