Schuylkill County Commissioners voted to apply for a capital grant to fund vehicles for the Schuylkill Transportation System.
At Wednesday’s commissioners meeting, authorization was given to file an application and to certify a local match for a capital improvement project for compressed natural gas vehicles amounting to $850,000. The number of vehicles was not stated.
Potential federal funding through the Federal Department of Transportation of $472,179 and $313,677 from The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation was requested. A local match of $64,144 is needed.
A date was not provided when funds could be awarded.
The new 80,000-square-foot STS facility at 300 Wade Road, Saint Clair, will provide compressed natural gas fueling for its vehicles, and other features.
