Palmerton restaurant gives away free pizza

It’s hard to pass up the opportunity to eat pizza.

Especially when it’s on the house, as was the case recently at one Palmerton business.

Papa Al’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria posted on Facebook that it had a decent number of slices left over on Monday.

Rather than throw the product away, the business chose to give away the pizza and garlic knots that remained for free.

It was a proposition too good to resist, as evidenced by the many who came in to swoop up the free offerings.

A short while later, the restaurant posted the free food was gone.

Sam Caban, manager, explained just how quickly the free food disappeared.

“About 14 people came in, about four (slices) to each, so about 56 slices,” Caban said. “They were gone within less than 50 minutes; it was a hit.”

Caban said it’s a practice the business plans to carry out from time to time.

“We were very happy doing that,” she said. “It’s something that we will continue to do when we see we have a good amount left over.”

Caban noted that there have been times when the food has gone toward the EMTs at the Palmerton Ambulance building.

“We throw away everything at the end of the night, so instead of dumping it, we try to find a place where we can go with it,” she said. “We’re appreciative of their sacrifices and what they do.”

Caban said it’s just their way of showing their gratitude.

“We will be doing that again,” she said. “We like to give back to Carbon County, especially to the Palmerton community.”

Caban said the business - which had previously been on Lehigh Avenue - relocated to 346-348 Delaware Ave. on Dec. 14.

At present, it offers takeout, delivery and has a bar open for seating.

“We are working very diligently on opening our dining room,” she said. “We are waiting on several items to come in (such as) original menus, refrigerated dessert case, patio furniture, some things we want to touch up in the dining room area before we open.”

Caban said customers may call 610-824-7163 or 610-824-7164, or follow them on Facebook for daily specials that are posted, along with updates including when they plan to open their dining room.
