Parryville to seek new engineering firm for sewage issues

The annual reorganization meeting for Parryville was held Jan. 19. New to the Playground Committee is Dustin Wentz, and a new committee dedicated to overseeing Act 537, sewage facilities, will be chaired by Jason Smith.

Appointments for services remained the same with one exception. Barry Isett and Associates, the engineering firm that had been contracted for several years to oversee the Act 537 work, has been nonresponsive.

President Cathy Hawk said, “It’s been so frustrating. We’ve paid them a lot of money, and they never respond. We (the Parryville Board) try really hard to watch how we are spending taxpayer dollars.”

Act 537 is a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection law passed in the 1960s that provides governmental oversight to sewage facilities.

It aims to “address existing sewage disposal needs, and to help prevent future problems through the proper planning, permitting, and design of all types of sewage facilities.”

Hawk said that “Act 537 needs be addressed,” but the borough “has spent a lot of money and hasn’t gotten anywhere” with Isett.

Smith and Hawk will look into whether Keystone Engineering, the main borough engineer, can pick up the project. Hawk said that “Keystone is awesome to work with and they’ve done an amazing job for us.”
