Man charged with drug possession following traffic stop

An Andreas man faces charges of drug possession following a traffic stop in Mahoning Township.

According to court papers filed by trooper Charles Inserra of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Allen Bauder:

On the afternoon of Jan. 13, police saw a black Chevrolet Cobalt parked in the parking lot at the Gulf Gas Station at 1706 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive.

The car was registered to Ashley Yarnell, who has a suspended driver’s license. Yarnell is married to Bauder, 36, who also had a suspended driver’s license.

Bauder was in the driver’s seat and pulled out of the parking lot and began traveling south on Fritz Valley Road at 50 to 55 mph for about three-quarters of a mile. The posted speed limit is 40 mph.

The car was drifting and crossed the center line multiple times.

Troopers stopped the car on Pine Hill Road before Winter Mountain Drive. Bauder appeared to be impaired, but denied he had used any drugs before driving.

The car’s inspection sticker was expired as of March 2020.

Bauder failed field sobriety tests, and refused a blood test.

Police found several drugs in the front pocket of his sweatshirt, including five clear bags of varying sizes containing a total of about 1.4 ounces of suspected methamphetamine; one clear bag containing suspected marijuana; one folded $100 bill and one folded $20 bill, both containing suspected methamphetamine; and one folded $20 bill containing suspected Percocet pills. Police found a white glass smoking device in a compartment on the dash. Bauder also had $3,086.

Bauder admitted that all items belonged to him, and said he uses methamphetamine daily, but denied that he sells drugs.

Bauder faces charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered; marijuana - small amount personal use; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; driving under influence of alcohol/controlled substance; driving while operating privilege suspended and traffic offenses.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 27 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
