Tamaqua fire crews respond to house fire

All four Tamaqua fire companies and rescue squad responded to a dwelling fire Saturday night in the borough. The fire was reported at 7:30 p.m. at 126 Clay St.

The first fire officials to arrive on scene reported a working fire in the basement. Neighbors said there was an explosion in the basement believed to have been the furnace.

Firefighters were active in the initial residence as well as in the adjacent row homes. A medic unit was requested to the scene for a person having difficulty breathing.
