Sacred Heart Parish, Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, celebrates weekend Mass at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Allentown Diocesan directives. All worshippers for weekend Mass are asked to call the rectory office at 610-826-2335, indicating the Mass time and number attending. Daily Mass, Monday through Friday, is celebrated at noon. The church remains open after daily Mass until 3 p.m. for private prayer. Sunday 9:30 a.m. Mass is livestreamed on Facebook for all who are unable to join us in person.

Seating capacity for all Masses is limited to 160 worshippers. Wearing a facial mask and safe distancing is required. The sacrament of Confession is offered by appointment only. Please call the rectory office to schedule. All other parish and diocesan news can be found at www.shcpalmerton.org.

This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings point out that the Ninevehs heard the preaching of Jonah and repented of their evil ways. Do we repent when we hear Jesus preaching? Do we allow the Word of God to mold us in our thoughts and actions?

Rite of Christian Initiation Class continues Monday at 1 p.m. in the Parish Center. The topic will be the early church and church history presented by Father Bill.

SJNRS Committee Meeting on Evangelization is on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the parish center.

Catholic Schools Week begins Jan. 31. The theme of “Learn, Serve, Lead and Succeed” will be reflected in activities throughout the week. Parents interested in enrolling their children at St. John Neumann for the 2021-22 school year should call Principal Mary Cominsky at 610-826-2354.

2020 Tax Contribution Statements will be available to all who request a statement. Please call Sandy at the parish office at 610-826-2335.

Parish cemetery plots are available in the new cemetery. To preplan and make your purchase please call the office at 610-826-2335.

If you are planning a 2021 wedding, remember the first place to reserve and begin your planning is at the church. A minimum of six months’ notice is a diocesan policy.

Father Bill continues to ask for prayers through the intercession of Father Walter Ciszek that God will bless us with a cure for COVID-19 and restore the physical, spiritual, emotional and financial health to our global family.
