Employees terminated as Schuylkill recycling program ends

Two per diem employees were terminated Wednesday from the Schuylkill County Solid Waste recycling department because the program is ending.

Patrick McCabe and Bernard McCauley, both of Frackville, were let go effective Wednesday.

Also, three full-time general labor positions in the maintenance department were created during the salary board meeting.

Human Resources Director Heidi Zula said three full-time workers are employed with the solid waste and recycling department but will not be once the program ends. The employees haven’t decided if they will accept the positions, Commissioners’ Chairman Barron “Boots” Hetherington said.

County engineer Lisa Mahall said Thursday Ryan Township was the last of the 16 recycling sites to be dismantled by Mei Demo and Excavation. The deadline to complete the project was Jan. 29.

Commissioners approved the recycling changes in November that require waste haulers to provide curbside recycling in the price of municipal waste collection service.
