Man charged with rape of young girl

A Summit Hill man has been charged with allegedly raping a young girl several years ago.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Kodie Pituch of the Summit Hill Police Department in the case against Daniel Schaller:

At 2:50 p.m. Oct. 8, Pituch was dispatched to a home on East Ludlow Street where a woman reported that her daughter told her that she was sexually assaulted by Schaller, 42, about seven years ago.

She was 7 years old at the time.

The woman said Schaller stayed with the family for about two years during this time.

On Oct. 26, a forensic interview was conducted at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Scranton with both of the victim’s parents and Pituch present.

The victim said that during the summer of 2013, Schaller was intoxicated and entered her bedroom and assaulted her.

He told the victim not to tell anyone or he would “hurt her and her parents.”

Schaller faces charges of rape - intercourse with victim less than 13; statutory sexual assault; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child; sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault; corruption of minors; terroristic threats; and indecent assault.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 27 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
