Monroe County emergency director retires

Monroe County Commissioners paid tribute to longtime emergency director Bruce Henry, who retired last week.

Although he wasn’t at the meeting, the commissioners agreed he would be missed.

Henry started in the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management in 2001 and served as deputy director under three emergency management directors, and for the past 10 years he was the director of emergency management.

“He was the kind of person you need in that position, he never overreacted. I think the best way to describe Bruce is that he steered a very steady ship,” said Greg Christine, chief clerk for the Monroe County Commissioners.

Henry is moving to Florida to be near family and enjoy the sunshine.

“We thank him and wish him well as he moves on to his retirement,” said Commissioners’ Chairwoman Laverdure.

New business

The commissioners have approved the following:

• Overtime for the Sheriff’s Office.

• The resignation of Jane Cilurso from the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board. Cilurso is moving out of the area.

• Monroe County Waste Management Authority reappointed James Frutchey Jr., mountain district, and Louise Troutman, at-large representative, to the board of directors. Both terms expire Dec. 31, 2024.

The next meeting is 9:30 a.m. Jan. 20.
