Coaldale seeking new accountant for audit

Coaldale is seeking a new accountant to audit its finances.

During a meeting Tuesday, borough council decided against reappointing its current auditor, Letitch and Zipay.

Council President Angela Krapf said the last completed audit the firm conducted was for its finances from 2015. She said they provided them with the materials for 2016 over two years ago, and still haven’t received the results.

The slow pace of audits has been an issue when the borough applies for grant money for equipment.

“It almost prohibited us from getting the grant for our pickup truck,” Krapf said. “It could affect us from getting other grants.”

Council approved several other reappointments unanimously during the meeting: Solicitor Robert Yurchak, zoning solicitor Cynthia Yurchak, zoning officer Carl Faust, Engineer Systems Design Inc., and health inspector Mark Richards.

In other business, the council voted to pay $750 for two police officers to attend a stun gun training event. The training is required in order for the officers to carry stun guns. They will also be able to train other officers in the department, Krapf said.

Council discussed reaching out to Lehigh Anthracite to discuss trucks which are leaving dirt and rocks on borough roads.
