LV Airport gets $1M grant for security upgrade

State Rep. Jeanne McNeill announced that the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority has been awarded a $1 million state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant.

The grant will be used for the terminal expansion at Lehigh Valley International Airport for the security checkpoint and terminal connector project.

“This funding will help the airport authority improve the movement and flow in the airport, as well as enhance safety and security by enlarging the terminal and updating the TSA screening area to meet TSA standards,” said McNeill, D-Lehigh.

“The changes should result in an overall improved passenger experience. This expansion project is greatly needed and I was glad to help the authority receive this funding, and I thank the governor for his support.”

Currently, the Lehigh Valley Airport requires both departing and arriving passengers to travel through the same tunnel, where the security checkpoint also is located, which only has two lanes. TSA standards require three lanes, and four lanes will be required in 10 years.

The RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
