A look back: Jan. 9, 2001

The Weissport park is safe.

Members of Weissport Borough Council revealed last night the small borough park will not be dug up when the town upgrades its central sewerage collection system.

The old terra cotta system had been a problem for the tiny borough for years, breaking at places and allowing river water to infiltrate the lines. It is scheduled to be replaced within the next two years.

Tim Rehrig, council vice president, said that construction will be rerouted around the park, eliminating the need to have pipes installed through the park.
