Area drivers in crashes

Area drivers were involved in two regional crashes.

• State police at Hamburg said a crash occurred at 4:52 a.m. on Jan. 2 along Interstate 78 in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

Sabrina N. Adkins, 28, of Walnutport, was driving a 2013 Kia Forte eastbound when she fell asleep. The vehicle drifted toward the center median where there was an entrance for a long-term construction project. The vehicle struck a signal sign at the entrance, then spun counterclockwise and crossed both lanes of travel and onto the berm, where it came to rest.

Adkins and her passenger, Jason L. Martin, 30, of Walnutport, suffered serious injuries and were both taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

• A Carbon County driver was involved in a crash involving two trucks along Lehigh Street in Allentown, Lehigh County, at 2:09 p.m. on Dec. 21.

State police at Fogelsville said Tyler J. Helmer, 28, of Lehighton, was driving a 2005 Mack truck with plow attached southbound and slowed for a red light and moved into the left turning lane to turn onto 31st Street SW. Billy P. McDade, 44, of Gilbertsville, driving a 2020 Freightliner tractor, was southbound in the center lane and slowed for the traffic light and then proceeded to make a left turn when the light changed to green. The right portion of the plow made contact with the driver’s side mirror of McDade’s truck.

Damages were minor to both vehicles, which were driven from the scene.
