Short term rentals through sites like Airbnb and Vrbo were increasingly popular in 2020, and many local townships looked at regulating them.
Residents said that some rentals have created issues with noise, trash and parking.
Many of the proposed regulations have looked at allowing rentals while penalizing owners whose guests caused disruptions.
Eldred and Polk townships in Monroe County adopted regulations.
In Carbon, Penn Forest and Jim Thorpe Borough both considered ordinances which would allow rentals with regulations, but they haven’t approved them. The two municipalities each held lengthy hearings on the topic.
