Eldred offices

The Eldred Township offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the new year.

In case of emergency, call the State Police at 610-681-1850.

Offices will reopen at 9 a.m. on Jan. 4.

The annual organization meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 4 with a regular meeting immediately following.

Due to limited seating, the meeting will also be available online as a Teams meeting or by phone. Instructions to join the meeting are on main page at www.eldredtwp.org.

WE Food Pantry

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown is doing a food distribution from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Church registration

Various churches are asking worshippers to register their intent, and which service, they are planning on attending due to numbers having to be limited in light of the current restrictions.

WE reorganizations

Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will meet for reorganization at 5 p.m. Monday.

The auditors will meet for reorganization at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Eldred will hold its reorganizational meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

Polk Township will also meet for its reorganization meeting on Monday at 7 p.m.

Ross Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday by audio conference. Residents may participate by calling 978-990-5000, Access code #873283.

Legion to open

According to the latest information available, the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert is scheduled to reopen at 11 a.m. Monday.

Blood drives

The Miller-Keystone Blood Center will be at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 6, for whole blood donations, and from 7:30 a.m. to noon for automated collections.

The next American Red Cross blood drive is Jan. 8 in neighboring Jackson Township from 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Jackson Township Fire Hall in Reeders.

Blast-off at park

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is offering a free fun activity at the Chestnuthill Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 8, making a rocket craft.

Craft materials are individually packaged and will be available for take home as well. All are asked to wear a mask.

The event will follow COVID guidelines and is subject to change, so it may become a drive-thru event from 5 to 6 p.m. or possibly be canceled.

Check back at weposc.org for updates prior to attending. Anyone not feeling well is asked to refrain from attending.

Farm school start

Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living, historical farm, has announced the start of its second semester of farm school as of Jan. 18.

The program is where students in online or hybrid learning can spend the day at Quiet Valley’s Education Center and the historic farm working on their teacher-assigned online classwork in the presence of a trained educator.

The day will be divided between the student’s required schoolwork and learning about 19th century farm life, possibly including cooking, folk art, heritage crafts, visit to the farm, etc.

It is for third- through eighth-graders and will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.

Cars accepted

Monroe County’s Habitat for Humanity is accepting donations of cars.

Such a donation is reported to help the reduction of oil usage in that the recycling of materials and parts from donated cars can help save 85 million barrels of oil per year used in making new parts.

Donating car, trucks, motorcycles, RV’s, boats, snowmobiles, and even farm equipment and construction equipment is possible, running or not running. If it has inflated tires it can be towed for free.
