Tamaqua demolition makes way for medical parking

By late Sunday, all that was left of the former Brown’s Gulf Station on North Railroad Street, Route 309, in Tamaqua was a pile of rubble.

Workers from Radocha Excavating of Coaldale brought down the 1940s-era Art Deco service station within a matter of hours.

The building is one of three adjoining commercial properties purchased Aug. 3 by Tamaqua Medical Center of St. Luke’s University Health Network, Bethlehem.

The health network purchased the former service station, along with the former Padora’s Six Pack House and a large, 1940s-era domed-roof garage that once served as Lazur Brothers Kaiser-Frazer Dealership.

The properties sold for a combined $370,000, according to Schuylkill County Courthouse records.

The health network is reportedly looking to expand parking availability in the vicinity.
