Pa. reports over 14,000 cases across two-day period

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Monday that there were 6,330 new cases, in addition to 8,630 new cases reported Sunday, for a two-day total of 14,960 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 426,444.

There are 5,300 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 1,107 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

The trend in the 14-day moving average of number of hospitalized patients per day has increased by nearly 4,000 since the end of September.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Nov. 27 – Dec. 3 stood at 14.4%.

As of 11:59 p.m. Saturday, there were 69 new deaths and as of 11:59 p.m. Sunday, there were 42 new deaths reported for a total of 11,373 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Local numbers

• Carbon County is reporting 1,703 cases, an increase of 85 since Saturday. Two additional deaths are reported, bringing the total to 61.

• In Lehigh County, there are 13,455 cases, an increase of 525 since Saturday. Deaths are now at 401 after two more were reported Monday.

• Luzerne County reported 11,476 cases, 405 more since Saturday. Four more deaths have been reported, which brings the running total to 323.

• Monroe County has 4,072 an increase of 160. Deaths remain at 159.

• In Northampton County, there are 10,767 cases, an increase of 440. Two more deaths were reported for a total of 346.

• Schuylkill County has 4,788 cases, an additional 147 since Saturday. Deaths remain at 196.
