Election tonight

The West End Home Association is slated to meet at 7:30 tonight at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert to hold its election and also to hold its monthly meeting.

Monthly meeting

American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Post 927 home for its monthly meeting.

Plastic bags sought

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville is asking for help in securing plastic bags to pass on to the Philadelphia Dream Team which then converts the bags to plastic bag mats.

Bags can be from any supermarket stores, convenience stores, some department stores (Kohl’s, J.C. Penney, Walmart etc.) Donors should make sure the bags are not too thick.

The bags can be brought to church on Sundays or Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Anyone with questions can call the church office at 570-992-6799.

Helping PVEN

Residents can help PVEN help those in need by bringing food donations, such as canned and boxed foods with future expiration dates. Fresh fruits and vegetables are particularly welcome, too.

It is best to bring food during the center’s drop-off hours, 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Tuesday or Friday.

Call 570-992-3136 to make an appointment to meet a volunteer during any other normal business hours.

Food boxes

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will have food boxes available from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Thursday and Dec. 17.

One does not have to call. Just come by, says the church secretary. Church members will put the box on or in the car. No identification is required.

PVSD reorganization

The Pleasant Valley School District is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the district office for its reorganizational meeting.

Busy Santa

Santa is coming to the West End to hand out some treats. He will be at the Chestnuthill Park on Friday, as a drive-thru, beginning at 6 p.m., and Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The events are free and sponsored by the West End Park & Open Space Commission.

Please remain in your vehicles and follow the flow of traffic.

At both events, WEPOSC is also collecting nonperishable foods for the PVEN.

These events have been altered from a traditional tree lighting, carols, crafts, cookies and cocoa with Santa, due to compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.

Church anticipation

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, did not have in-church services.

It is anticipated that this Sunday the church will be open, but masks are required.

Storybook walks

A joint venture by the West End Park & Open Space Commission and the Western Pocono Community Library, Storywalks, is now underway at two locations. It features laminated storybook pages outside on walks in two places.

Featured at the West End Regional Park’s Fleetwood Trail is “A Warm Friendship” by Ellen DeLange with art by Jacqueline Molnar. A second story featured outside the Western Pocono Community Library is “Peg + Cat: The Penguin Problem,” with story and art by Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson.

Families are invited to take a walk with the family and enjoy the stories along the paths. They should be sure to click on the phone codes in the beginning so people know they stopped in, too.

Ross Township

The Ross Township Supervisors meet the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. unless it is a holiday. Then it is the following Monday.

Meetings are held at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Road, in Saylorsburg.
