Drugs, over $100K seized in Monroe

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported that large amounts of cash and drugs were found during an investigation in which officers were assisting detectives from the Atlantic City, New Jersey, prosecutors office.

Regional police said on Nov. 21 at 6:18 p.m. they and New Jersey officials were investigating a felony theft that occurred in the Atlantic City jurisdiction.

During the investigation officers identified a suspect in the theft leaving a residence in Tobyhanna Township. Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed headed north on Interstate 380. During the pursuit the driver of the fleeing vehicle turned off its lights to avoid detection. The vehicle then got off the interstate onto Route 434 in Wayne County where it crashed.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kevin Taylor, 22, of Newark, New Jersey, was taken into custody. The driver, Khalif Pinnix, 44, also of Newark, ran into the woods and evaded capture.

Investigators then conducted search warrants on the vehicle involved in the pursuit, a residence on Skytop Road, Long Pond, and two additional vehicles.

Police seized $57,386 and drug paraphernalia consistent with drug deliveries from the vehicle in the pursuit. Police seized an additional $20,551 from a second vehicle and a stolen handgun from a third vehicle. Police also seized $34,828, a large amount of merchandise consistent with theft, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana from the Skytop Road residence.

Taylor was committed to the county prison in Snydersville on both charges filed by Pocono officers and those from New Jersey. Charges filed against Taylor include felony counts of receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy-receiving stolen property, and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Pinnix was charged with the same offenses plus fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person and various motor vehicle code violations.
