Panther Valley Jr.-Sr. high school closed until Dec. 14

Panther Valley Superintendent David McAndrew Jr. notified parents Sunday that the junior senior high school will close for three days for cleaning because of three COVID-19 cases. The district was scheduled to close after Thanksgiving break through Dec. 14.

“Two individuals who were last in attendance at Panther Valley on Nov. 17 (one individual), Nov. 20 (one individual) have subsequently tested positive for COVID-19,” McAndrew said. That follows a case that was reported in the school on Friday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is monitoring the situation.

Staff members and students that are determined to be a close contact with any individual with a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be directly contacted with instructions to quarantine. Close contacts are those who are within 6 feet distance for more than 15 minutes with a person identified as a confirmed case with COVID-19.

“PA DOH officials have determined because of the increase in positive cases of individuals at the Panther Valley Junior Senior High School, it is recommended we close our school for three days to perform appropriate contact tracing, communicate appropriately any required quarantine recommendations and to continue to clean and disinfect our buildings.”

Previously the district announced the district will close schools after Thanksgiving break through Dec. 14.

“All students will continue their education via remote learning during the school closure. Staff will also work remotely during this school closure,” McAndrew said.

Anyone experiencing symptoms should self-quarantine and contact your doctor. If you are feeling ill, it is recommended that you separate from others in the home, wear a face mask, cover coughs and sneezes, clean hands and surfaces often, and avoid sharing personal items. It should be emphasized that anyone who is ill should stay home except to get medical care. As you know, virus symptoms can range from mild to severe and could include fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills without a fever, sore throat, muscle aches and pains, and temporary loss of smell or taste. Symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure.Panther Valley Superintendent David McAndrew Jr. notified parents Sunday that the junior senior high school will close for three days for cleaning because of three COVID-19 cases.
