Pa. reports highest daily increase in COVID cases again

The Pennsylvania Department of Health Friday confirmed 5,531 new positive COVID-19 cases, which marked the pandemic’s highest daily statewide increase. The statewide total is now 254,387.

The state reported 30 new deaths as of 11:59 p.m. Thursday. There have now been 9,224 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

There are 2,196 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 448 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 28,990 resident cases of COVID-19, and 6,028 cases among employees at 1,144 distinct facilities across 63 counties.

There were 332,640 tests administered between Nov. 6-12 with 28,290 positives.

A total of 2,314 patients are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19.

Local county numbers

Carbon County reported 845 cases, an increase of 34 cases. Carbon reported 36 deaths, an increase of four from the previous day. Currently five COVID-19 patients are hospitalized.

Lehigh County has 8,332 cases, an increase of 165 cases. Deaths remain at 372. A total of 117 patients are hospitalized.

Luzerne County reported 6,760 cases, an increase of 118 cases. There have been 222 deaths reported. There are 78 patients hospitalized.

Monroe County reported 2,479 cases, 66 new cases. Deaths remain at 135. A total of 135 deaths have been attributed from COVID-19. Twelve patients are currently hospitalized.

Northampton has 6,593 cases, an increase of 136 cases. Deaths remain at 322. The county has 16 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.

Schuylkill County reported 2,762 cases, an increase of 65. There have been 129 deaths reported. A total of 33 patients are hospitalized.
