4,711 new virus cases in Pa., Carbon moves into substantial range

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of Wednesday that there were 4,711 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 243,368. This is the highest daily increase of cases.

There were 59 new deaths reported for a total of 9,145 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

There are 1,948 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 417 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 28,142 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,932 cases among employees, for a total of 34,077 at 1,126 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of the total deaths, 5,922 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 13,036 of our total cases are among health care workers.

Carbon has moved into the substantial transmission stage. Lehigh, Luzerne, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties are also in the substantial range. Monroe is the only local county in the moderate range.

• Carbon County is reporting 773 cases, an increase of 17 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 32.

• Lehigh County is reporting 7,965 cases, an increase of 190 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 372.

• Luzerne County reported an increase of 111 cases, bringing the total to 6,450. Two additional deaths have been reported for a total of 216.

• Monroe County has 49 new cases, bringing the total to 2,367. Deaths remain at 135.

• Northampton County has 6,324 cases, an increase of 117 cases. Deaths remain at 319.

• Schuylkill County has 2,643 cases, an increase of 54 cases. Four additional deaths have been reported for a total of 127.
