Pa. reports highest 1-day increase in virus cases; Schuylkill adds 7 deaths

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Tuesday that there were 4,361 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 238,657. This is the highest daily increase of cases.

As of midnight, there were 62 new deaths reported for a total of 9,086 deaths attributed to COVID-19. There are 1,827 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 393 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 27,924resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,902 cases among employees, for a total of 33,826 at 1,118 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of the total deaths, 5,922 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 13,036 of our total cases are among health care workers.

• Carbon County is reporting 756 cases, an increase of 33 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 32.

• Lehigh County is reporting 7,775 cases, an increase of 118 cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 372.

• Luzerne County reported an increase of 133 cases, bringing the total to 6,339. An additional death has been reported for a total of 216.

• Monroe County has 31 new cases, bringing the total to 2,318. Deaths remain at 135.

• Northampton County has 6,207 cases, an increase of 76 cases. Deaths remain at 319.

• Schuylkill County has 2,589 cases, an increase of 83 cases. Seven additional deaths have been reported for a total of 123.
