Tamaqua reports COVID case Monday, 56 to quarantine

Tamaqua Area School District reported a COVID-19 case on Monday which will require many others to isolate.

Superintendent Ray Kinder addressed district families in a letter.

After consulting with the department of health, it was determined that 56 individuals will need to quarantine. But according to the letter, an “overwhelming majority of which are not due to the classroom setting.”

“While a high number have been quarantined, it is important to remember that these individuals have not tested positive for the virus,” Kinder said. “They have simply been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive.

“Quarantining occurs in order to remove those who have potentially been exposed to the virus, thus making the remaining people less susceptible,” Kinder’s letter said. “To this point, we do not believe we have had any transmissions from a positive person occurring due to our school setting and mitigation efforts.”
