Man charged with assaulting woman during argument
A Luzerne County man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a woman during an argument.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Scott Wysocky of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Anthony Ritton:
Wysocky was traveling on Strohls Valley Road, Towamensing Township, when he was flagged down by a woman who ran out onto the roadway with her two children, ages 4 and 2. She was pulling on Wysocky’s patrol vehicle door handle, yelling, “Let us in.”
The victim was frantically yelling, “Let us in, he beat the (expletive) out of me.”
The woman and her two children got into Wysocky’s patrol vehicle as Ritton was walking toward it.
Wysocky then got out of the vehicle and took Ritton, 29, of Wilkes-Barre, to a black Sedan that was parked in the parking lot at Strohls Old Homestead Tree Farm.
On Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m., trooper Leo Petrucci interviewed Ritton at PSP Lehighton, at which time he said there was an argument that turned physical.
Ritton said that while driving down Strohls Valley Road, the woman ripped the ignition interlock out of his vehicle, which rendered it disabled.
Ritton said that the victim began to accuse him of cheating on her, and that’s when she began to physically assault him.
Ritton said she punched him in the head with a closed fist and began biting him.
Ritton said that he then struck the victim in her head, causing injury and shoved her while outside of the vehicle.
The victim said that while driving, she engaged into an argument with Ritton. She said she was leaving him, and the altercation turned physical. Ritton started yelling at her to get out of the vehicle when they parked in the parking lot.
The victim said that Ritton punched her in the head and physically pulled her from the vehicle.
She said Ritton continued to physically assault her by kicking and punching her.
The victim said she did hit and bite Ritton in an attempt to get away from him.
The victim then removed her children from the vehicle and Ritton told her to get back in the car or he would “kill” her.
At some point Ritton was in possession of a pocket knife.
The woman asked to remove her personal belongings from the vehicle, which included her backpack and personal items from the children.
At this time an inventory search was conducted and small plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine was located in a black backpack on the front passenger seat.
The victim said the substance belonged to Ritton.
While searching the victim’s backpack, police found three syringes. The victim admitted that two of them belonged to her while the other belonged to Ritton.
The vehicle was secured and towed to PSP Lehighton to be held until a search warrant could be obtained.
Ritton faces charges of aggravated assault; the controlled substance, drug, device, and cosmetic act: prohibited acts, penalties; terroristic threats; endangering welfare of children; and simple assault.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail.
