24 patients, 3 staffers have virus at Mahoning nursing home

Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has 24 positive residents isolated to one wing.

The center posted on its website and Facebook Friday that three staff have tested positive.

According to the center, the staffers who were identified through testing prior to work and did not provide care to any residents since the outbreak.

One positive resident is on another wing. All residents on that wing are being tested.

Results are expected by Monday at the latest.

The facility will update all families.

Devon Mickey, NHA, vice president, said, “Our goal is to ensure accurate and real-time updates as often as possible.”

Mickey said, “Whenever a resident presents with signs or symptoms of COVID-19, they are immediately put on Red Isolation which means all staff caring for them must wear a face shield, N95 mask, gown, and gloves.”

Roommates are considered potentially exposed and treated with the same precautions

Whenever the facility receives a positive test, the red isolation has already been in place for that room

“Our goal is to ensure accurate and real-time updates as often as possible,” Mickey said.
