Man charged with stealing items from Polk building site

A Monroe County man is facing charges stemming from a burglary at a residence under construction.

State police at Lehighton said on Oct. 23 at 3:23 p.m. troopers responded to the home on the 100 block of Sherry Drive in Polk Township. On scene the victims, listed as a 55-year-old man from Brodheadsville, a 53-year-old man from Kunkletown, and Future Homes, of Lehighton, reported various tools and other items were removed from the property with a value of $2,450. A neighborhood canvas produced a photo of a suspected vehicle, a 2004 Subaru Forester, involved in the incident.

On Oct. 26 the victims reported seeing a generator taken in the incident listed for sale on Offer Up.

The seller was identified as Thomas Edwin Kram, 39, of the 1400 block of Donalds Road, Albrightsville, Chestnuthill Township.

Troopers went to Kram’s residence and saw the suspect Subaru in the driveway. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and property. Force entry was made to the home and the stolen items were immediately visible inside the front door. Suspected methamphetamine was also seized during the search.

Kram was located hiding in the attic crawl space and was taken into custody. Kram was interviewed and confessed to taking the items from the home under construction. While in custody, Kram displayed signs of withdraw and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton. After being released he was arraigned before a district judge and released after posting $25,000 security bail. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
