Tamaqua Superintendent Ray Kinder informed parents Thursday that a high school student has tested positive for COVID-19. Thirteen additional people are in quarantine.
Kinder said the student is in isolation and recovering.
“The school district has utilized protocols from the Department of Health, collected data, and analyzed factors of transmission. After this consultation, it was determined that 13 additional individuals will need to quarantine,” Kinder said.
“While evidence continues to suggest transmissions occurring outside of the school setting, we want to assure our students, staff and families that we continue our mitigation efforts during the school day. Further, we want to emphasize the need to participate in these healthy protocols while home during the week and especially on
weekends,” he added.
Kinder said so far cases so far appear isolated.
“If cases begin to cluster or become widespread, we will need to react cautiously to support the health and well-being of our students and staff,” Kinder said.
