Bonner joining Tamaqua arts center

Drew Bonner, a Tamaqua native and a graduate of the class of 2010, is joining the Tamaqua Community Arts Center as the art and events coordinator.

Bonner is a composer, arranger, performer, teacher, and musical guru. He currently resides in Northeast Pennsylvania where he enjoys grilling, petting dogs, and working as a freelance musician.

“I am so excited to be joining the Tamaqua Community Arts Center family. I have been an admirer of the arts center from afar since its inception,” Bonner said.

“Now, coming home to work for my hometown community is a real honor. My goals are to continue the success of the arts center while adding in my own ideas to foster more creativity across the community. I can’t wait to get started.”

Bonner is an active arranger, creating 50-plus arrangements per year for various ensembles. He regularly writes music for collegiate marching bands and loves cheering at college football games on Saturdays in the fall.

Bonner also writes original music for bands, chamber ensembles, and soloists. His compositions has been performed by groups across the United States including the Fountain City Brass Band and the Stiletto Brass Quintet.

Recently, Bonner started a new video series on his YouTube channel Drew Bonner Music. He regularly uploads music videos as well as videos about the life of a professional musician. His goal for the channel is to ignite passion in young musicians and inspire anyone that watches to be creative.

Drew is a founding member of the euphonium quartet FivE, regularly giving performances and master classes around the United States. Bonner graduated with a bachelor’s in music from The Pennsylvania State University in 2015 and a master’s in music from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020.

In addition, he served as a graduate teaching assistant with the University of Texas Bands Department.

He enjoys listening to and singing barbershop quartet music and will gladly sing anything except bass as his voice doesn’t go very low. In his free time, he enjoys road trips and listening to podcasts.

Bonner is a Buffet Crampon and Besson performing artist and plays exclusively on a Besson Prestige 2051.
