Family seeks help in aftermath of daughter’s death

A couple mourning the tragic loss of their daughter are asking for support so they can be there for her children.

“The main concern is getting everything we need to take care of them. The people supporting us have been great,” Tony Kroboth said.

Laura Else, 31, of Lower Towamensing died Oct. 5 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill. Police have charged her husband with her murder.

Laura’s parents, Tony and Karen Kroboth, are currently providing care for her three children, ages 11, 9 and 2.

A family friend of the Kroboths recently started an online fundraiser to help them deal with the unexpected costs they now face in raising their grandchildren.

Laura’s children were the most important thing in her life. She also enjoyed art, particularly charcoal sketches, and writing poetry.

“She really had a way of putting down what was in her head on paper,” Karen Kroboth said.

Laura passed down her love of art to her two daughters and her young son.

Her parents are now focused on being there for them since Laura no longer can.

“It’s tragic that they’re not going to know her as they grow up,” Karen said.

The Kroboths are faced with the cost of making improvements to their home as well as finding a large enough vehicle to safely transport their grandchildren.

Tony, who is retired, was already planning improvements to their house. But now he has to push up his schedule in order to provide a comfortable place for the kids to live.

They also need to find a 6-8 passenger vehicle large enough for them, and large enough to carry the materials needed to complete the projects around the house.

Knowing that the vehicle was paid for would remove a significant financial burden for them.

“That would be one thing we don’t have to worry about. We just have to take it day by day, it’s all we can do,” Tony said.

While an account was set up for the children as part of Laura’s funeral arrangements, that money can’t be used to cover the expenses for improvements and a vehicle.

They’re asking the public to support the online fundraiser, or send checks care of Karen and Tony Kroboth to First Northern Bank, Fourth Street and Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, PA 18071.
