State police report on Carbon attacks

A Carbon County man is among three facing charges for an incident in Luzerne County.

State police at Hazleton said at 9 a.m. Sunday troopers responded to the 200 block of Club Forty Road, in Hazle Township, for a report of three men threatening another man.

A 34-year-old man from Hazle Township said the three suspects arrived at his home on Boundary Street and demanded money. While in the home the three threatened the victim and punched him in the face.

The three then drove the victim to the Hazle Township address to get the demanded money. The victim entered the residence and called police.

While troopers were responding to the scene it was learned that the three suspects left the scene and were traveling toward Hazleton. The vehicle involved, a 2011 Jeep Compass, passed the responding troopers. Troopers them stopped the vehicle in the lot of the Elks Lodge on Broad Street in Hazleton.

The three suspects were identified as Cole Schreffler, 29, of Weatherly; Dillon Friendy 26, and Gary Stemko, 34, both of Hazleton. All three were taken into custody.

Schreffler was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass; Stemko and Friendy, both with harassment.

In another case, state police at Hazleton reported the arrest of a Carbon County man on an active warrant.

Troopers said at 11:37 p.m. on Sept. 21 they responded to a area along Tamaqua Street in Banks Township, for a reported robbery/purse snatching with force. As a result James Caskey, 39, of Banks Township, was taken into custody on a warrant issued out of New Jersey. The victim of the robbery was a 21-year-old man from Hazleton.
