COVID-19 update: Largest one-day report at 2,219

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Friday that there were 2,219 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 190,579. Daily increases are now comparable with what we saw in April 2020, with today’s case count the largest one-day total.

There are 8,625 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 33 new deaths reported. Schuylkill County reported six deaths.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 25,122 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,455 cases among employees, for a total of 30,577 at 1,039 distinct facilities in 62 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,699 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.

Approximately 11,906 of our total cases are among health care workers.

Carbon County is reporting 561 cases, an increase of three. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 29. Lehigh County is reporting 6,318 cases, an increase of 56. One additional death has been reported for a total of 364.

Luzerne County reported an increase of 75 cases, bringing the total to 5,011. Two additional deaths have been reported at 193. Monroe County has seven new cases, bringing the total to 1,968. One additional death has been reported for a total of 135. Northampton County has 5,184 cases, an increase of 29 cases. One additional death was reported for a total of 311 deaths. Schuylkill County has 1,769 cases, an increase of 37. Six additional deaths have been reported for a total of 84.
