Carbon prison clear of COVID-19

The Carbon County Correctional Facility is again clear of COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Anthony Harvilla, president of the county prison board, confirmed that the sole case of COVID-19 discovered in an inmate at the Nesquehoning prison last month is no longer an issue.

“The inmate in question has been cleared by medical staff,” he said after speaking with Warden Timothy Fritz. “There are no remaining cases at the facility and all staff have been cleared with no reports of collateral infection from the matter.”

The positive case was first reported to the prison on Sept. 18. That inmate was in isolation.

The county then began contact tracing and determined 12 prison employees had direct contact and were directed to self-quarantine until they had been tested.
